Kena saman!
Monday, August 02, 2004 Today, I finally sold off my old PC to Miza. I gave her almost everything that I had at a price of RM610 (of which only RM378 belongs to me - RM232 was used to buy her a new CPU). Finally, money that I can use! First on my mind after obtaining the money is to spend it on a Visual Basic .Net book. I need that book to guide me in developing my final year project software. Upon setting foot in Midvalley's MPH bookstore, I had a rough idea of THE book I want - Deitel & Deitel's "How to Program: Visual Basic .Net". I read reviews from the Internet saying that that book is among the greatest for learning VB .Net as a beginner. But after actually checking out the book, skimming through the contents and all, I found out that the book is not for me. Yes, the book is great in terms of completeness, clarity in its explanation, etc. But I think it has too much text! It totally feels like a university textbook (in actual fact, it is!). I might be able to learn more about using VB .Net by reading that book, but I'm sure it'll take me too much time to finish it. Might even take me a year! And time is not on my side, coz I must finish my project in 7 months' time! So, I cancelled buying that book and thus settled on a book that's more, how should I say it, informal, straight to the point and has step-by-step instructions. And I've found a book that I think fits that description well: "SAMS Teach Yourself: Microsoft Visual Basic .Net 2003 In 21 Days" by Steven Holzner. Hopefully I'll really be able to learn it in 21 days. :) But it costs me RM122 to buy the book. :( And what's worse, upon reaching home, I heard bad news from my father: I had a traffic summons 2 weeks ago! The letter just arrived home. How unlucky can I get??? I just spent RM122, and now I had to spend another RM150! Fortunately, my mother sympathised with me and agreed to cover half the summons' cost. But still, paying RM75 for nothing feels really bad! I might as well use that money to buy me 7 Coffee Bean Ice Blended drinks! Yes, that'll just be equally wasteful, but at least I'll be able to taste what I pay for. Paying for summons? It's equivalent to throwing your money away in a trash can! :'( This time I'm not gonna go above the speed limit. Siot laaa... If only I'm rich... I won't have this dilemma...
