Raya was okay...
Tuesday, November 16, 2004 Yo ppl! So how are your raya's everyone? Fine? Good? As for me, it was okay. As usual, I was able to predict what would happen in the first two days of our family's raya. A day before raya, my family and I prepared the house, as usual. The usual cleaning, cooking, etc. I and my dad, we painted our front grille. The poor thing's old paint has cracked and peeled off in many places, giving it a very bad look. What's more, we were inviting the jemaah surau to come to our house that night for takbir raya. We had to at least improve the front grille's appearance. So we spray-painted the whole grille. Ayah sprayed the paint, while I was the person being sprayed at! Heh, actually, I was the one holding the old newspaper aloft, so that paint won't be sprayed to other places such as our floors and furniture. Still, figuratively, I can be considered being sprayed with paint! What with all those paint fumes. Ugh... Then, that night, we hosted the takbir raya at our house, and, suffice to say, it was nothing spectacular la. Just a simple occasion, with our imam leading the takbir, followed with doa. Then they go for makan2 with what our family offered, and off they go to another house. The whole thing lasted for just around 15 minutes. On raya day itself, after solat raya, we first went to meet Tok Bu (my grandma on my mother's side) at my Mak Long's house. The house was full with my aunts, uncles, and cousins. Most of my relatives were there. But I, as usual, due to my lack of social skills, didn't talk a lot. :P I kept quiet most of the time, only chatting a few lines or two whenever I feel the need to do it. :P Teruknye... But at least, it's still nice to be able to meet my cousins. Jarang leh jumpe, setaun 2 kali je (both raya's). Then, we balik kampung to my Nenek's (my grandma on my father's side) house, stopping along the way to visit my tok sedara's house. And at Nenek's house, we spent the night there, and continued the next day visiting all my embah's (grandfathers in javanese) houses. I don't wanna bore you with the details, but suffice to say that it wasn't something that I like to do, as it's a bore... But I personally oblige myself to follow my parents during those rounds, as it's important to at least know who your tok2 sedara's are, and from then on, who your second cousins are. It's important to know who your relatives are. :) And then, at night, we went back to PJ. And now you see me writing out this post. :D So, that's a rundown of what happened since Saturday. So how were your raya's spent? Posted by Nikman Shah at 1:59 am ![]() | *** |
