Blogging On and Off
Wednesday, February 23, 2005 It's a recurring trend... most of my blogging friends are posting blogs at a slower rate, and some even have plans to close them altogether! Take Doc Del (faza), for example. She's planning to be on an indefinite hiatus. For what reason? She just doesn't have enough time! And she's feeling that it's more of a chore to post blogs, rather than an enjoyment. And that makes me think back at the reason I started blogging. The real reasons I started this in the first place is for me to make it like a diary, and also as an imaginary entity that I vent out my angers, fears, hopes, dreams, etc. Also, I had visions of creating a website that's truly useful to anyone on the Internet, sort of like a Friendster, but my life story being the focal point of it. And of course, I started it all after watching the beautiful blogs that a few of my friends (particularly Lini) have. Well, the community part of my vision has partly been achieved actually. Don't you guys think that blogging is sort of like a friendster thingy too? By creating this blog and visiting others, I've known many new people, and made friends with them too! Although they're just online friends, I have the intention one day to meet these people face-to-face and get to know them better. Furthermore, I feel comfortable chatting with these people. Why? Because from their blogs, I know their stories, the lives they lead, their fears, likes, crushes, etc. On the flip side, they also know about my life. This part of blogging is what makes it a more superior "friendster" compared to the original Friendster. Tell me, how many times do you bother to reply to a Friendster message by a stranger who wants to be friends with you, and actually follow that up with further replies to and fro? Compare that with people who visit your blogs and post comments on your tagboards. When they visit your blog often, and post further comments, you'll slowly but surely become more comfortable with them, since you know they appreciate your thoughts. It's hard for me to see this happening in Friendster. Nevertheless, I understand the dilemma. And I know it's true. When you feel that blogging is a chore, sort of like a work that you are forced to do, it will be a burden. And there's no point in keeping a blog that burdens you. It strays off the true reason for blogging. We have to enjoy posting what we want. And a definite no-no is when you post contents just so that you can satisfy what your readers want. Your blog is yours alone, and no one should dictate what he/she wants to be placed in it. Now that brings me to this: I think I myself will not be posting as often as I normally do. I'll be posting maybe twice or so per week. It's because I have to complete my final year project and a few more assignments that must be submitted within these last few weeks of the semester. I'm not on hiatus, don't worry. From now on, I'll post only when I feel that I want to. Like tonight. :) But anyway guys, thanks for always being a constant visitor to my blog! And thanks for willing to read what I write. :) Continue visiting me as always. I will try to ensure that I will have new contents as often as possible, but only when it strikes me lah. If I don't have anything to write, I'll not force myself. You guys pun tak suka contents yang useless macam tu kan? Posted by Nikman Shah at 9:23 pm ![]() | *** |
