Yet another day at the office...

Thursday, April 28, 2005

Hi guys! Today is the earliest I've ever arrived at this office. 8.05 a.m.!
Yeah... Now I can go back at 5.05 p.m. today. Great! Normally I would
arrive at around 8.10 or 8.15 a.m. Yeah, you might think, "What's the big
deal with you, only 5-10 minutes difference maaa... Not a problem." Nope.
It's definitely a problem, since Wisma Technip is in KL, and you know what
that means. Traffic jam. Even going out of the office 5 minutes late can
spell trouble. Well, it's actually a bit unpredictable la this KL traffic.
Last week, I once went back at around 5.07 p.m., and it still took me
slightly less than an hour to arrive home. On other days, I can sometimes
go back at around 5.15 p.m. and still arrive at around 6 p.m. There's KL
traffic for you. Totally unpredictable.

If you want to be able to survive life in KL amidst these traffic jams, you
should master the art of mencelah2 and cut queues. Muahahaha... Luckily I
drive a Kancil to work. Hey, got to survive maaa... At least the way I cut
queues is not via the emergency lanes. I rarely drive in the emergency
lanes, except at this one area near the Motorala interchange at the Federal
Highway where it's always jammed and most of the vehicles that cause this
jam want to go towards Subang, thus blocking off people like me who
actually just want to take the nearest exit there that goes towards Jalan
222. ONLY THERE will I use the emergency lane. If not, it'll take me at
least 10 minutes just to clear a distance of around 300 m. Very
frustrating!

Today my cubiclemate "teacher", A, is on leave, since he wants to have some
time to submit his income tax form. Income taxes, salaries, zakat... the
domain of working individuals. I'll be a member of this group very shortly.
Huhu... time really flies... Anyway, I call A teacher because he's the only
one in this office who really helps me out when I don't know what to do. I
must say that he've teached me a lot. My supervisor? Well, he's busy with
his work. After all, he's the section manager, so he doesn't have time to
really supervise what I do, apart from checking the assignments and reports
that I submit to him weekly. I'm really very grateful to A for wanting to
teach me the way they do work in this office.

Yesterday, my friend Ikrom, who was on training with TNB Distribution (the
PEP programme) previously, have just learned where his real job posting is.
He's been instructed by TNB HQ to work in Temerloh, but his hometown is in
Johor! Ugh... scary. This is another reason why I feel malas to join TNB.
They can just sesuka hati post us to anywhere they feel fit. The way they
choose, it looks like very random. Some of my friends, they got posted near
their hometowns, while others got posted quite far away. And it's not that
gender-biased pun. Most of the time, yes, women TNB staff normally get
posted near their hometowns, but I also learned that there are some of my
male friends who got posted near their hometowns too.

If I were to work here at Technip, I can almost surely say that I will be
working here in Wisma Technip, in KL. Yeah, I must brave the traffic jams
daily, but at least I'm near to my home. I can just stay at home, save up
on a lot of daily expenses (so that I can use that money to kawin!
muahahaha... ;)), and generally still be quite happy. Well, here's hoping I
do get to work near KL.

Guys, I would like to ask your opinions about something. My situation is
now like this: I'm currently doing industrial training at Technip (haven't
graduated) while at the same time trying to complete my final year project,
before my convocation which will be sometime in September. Do you guys
think I should start applying fo jobs now, or should I wait until I have
completed my internship and final year project? The dilemma is that I'm
scared that these guys at this office would think that I'm unloyal, and
thus lessening my chances of joining Technip. On the other hand, my final
year project haven't been fully completed yet, so I'm afraid that I won't
know what to answer about it, since I haven't finished it yet. So how?
