A win and a loss!

Monday, August 29, 2005

My last post was on the 16th of August 2005. 2 weeks have passed. What has happened? 2 major events (for me, at least) has occurred:
1. Zzap egamesasia at Limkokwing University on the 20th and 21st of this month
2. World Cyber Games 2005 at Midvalley Megamall this past weekend (26th to 28th August)

First, the good news. I participated in the Zzap egamesasia, for the Winning Eleven 8 competition (PC version) in the Piala E-sukan category. And guess what? I won! I won first place! It was an unprecedented occurance for me. I have never won a video/PC games competition before, and this was my first win.

But to my dismay, the prizes I won does not include cash. Nope. Zero cash included. They gave me, the winner, 7 original PC games and a Saitek P1500 gamepad. The games are Full Spectrum Warrior, Conflict Vietnam, Real Madrid Club Football 2005, Winning Eleven 8 International, International Superstar Soccer 3, ToCA Race Driver and Battle Realms.

Guys, if any of you are interested in buying these original PC games, contact me okay? I know the prospect of a Malaysian buying original PC games is near to none, but I just hope someone out there will go the legit way and be interested with my offer. I'm actually putting it up for auction at www.lelong.com.my. Hopefully someone will be interested with the offers.

However, the following weekend, which was this just past weekend, I lost in another tournament! This time, it's the World Cyber Games 2005! To my credit, this time, the game that I played was Need for Speed Underground 2. And man, it was tough. I can't compete maaa with all those guys yg dah practice macam haper ntah. Perfect driving tak ingat punye. And they were all sponsored by cyber cafes. They surely were able to practice all day (and probably night!) long. How can somebody like me who's also busy doing other things like my final year project and downloading things off the Internet could ever beat them?

I was a bit bitter at this loss, but I put more blame on my shoulders rather than other people. I don't know why I chose to register for NFS underground 2, because I knew from experience last year that I didn't stand a chance in winning that game. The game is more (to me) pure luck, perfection-dependent, and having the capability of finding out the best settings for your car; rather than pure skill.

Next year, I plan to join the Fifa 2006 game category (assuming WCG 2006 still doesn't include Winning Eleven 9 / Pro Evolution Soccer 5 as one of its official games). I know, it seems like a defection from WE/PES, but what to do? Fifa is my best bet for a fair and square match. I just hope that Fifa 2006's controls are configurable and its gameplay more fluid and closely resembles Winning Eleven/Pro Evolution Soccer. If they do, I stand a fighting chance of winning the tournament. If they don't, I guess I'll have to train my brain to be receptive to both types of games.

I want to win!
