I could be a movie reviewer! A review of Laws of Attraction, which is boooring...
Saturday, May 29, 2004 Hi all. This morning I went to Sunway Pyramid to catch the movie Laws of Attraction, which, if I'm not mistaken, has not yet been shown in Malaysian cinemas. When it does officially launch here, I suggest you don't go watch it. Not that it's truly boring, but it lacks the feel good factor (I dunno what to call it) that makes us feel that a romantic comedy is entertaining and humorous. The story is about how two very successful divorce lawyers, Audrey Woods (Julianne Moore) and Daniel Rafferty (Pierce Brosnan) with very different approaches toward a divorce case (Audrey uses a by-the-book approach, while Daniel takes an "anything goes" approach) are pitted against each other in various cases in court, while hating the other person very much. Well, actually only Audrey shows that she hates Daniel a lot, while Daniel takes it as though she's attracted to him. And then, one day, they ended up marrying each other while drunk! So you can just imagine what happens after that. In my opinion, this movie lacks the jokes, punchlines, one-liners, and many other important elements of an outstanding romantic comedy. This is what proves to be its downfall. Seriously, all along the movie, I can't seem to laugh or even simply bring a wide smile to my face, because of the mediocrity of its script. In terms of acting, both Brosnan and Moore did their jobs very well, but what's lacking is, as I said above, the feel good factor. Normally, after I watch a romantic comedy, I'll feel really good, inspired and attracted to what happened in the movie. I'll feel as though I'd like to relive the events of the movie and my walk will have a certain gait to it, like someone who's confident. But this movie does not elicit that type of feeling in me at all. It's like, after I watched the movie, I asked myself, "Is that it? That's all?". Yup, it's that mediocre. And no wonder the cinemaonline.com.my website gave it a 2/5 rating. But at least it was free! Yes, free again! I'm on a roll here aren't I? Hehehe... As I previously said, I won an online contest held by the cinemaonline website. I got 2 free tickets actually, but went to watch it alone, because I had nobody else who's free to watch it with me. Or am I just too lonely? I dunno... I tried searching for a person all over Sunway Pyramid to come join me watching the movie, but couldn't found one. Everyone seems to walk in couples these days. Sigh... And you know what people? It seems that my website development hopes were not in vain at all. After I finished watching the movie, I inadvertently went into an MPH bookstore and found a good book (I hope) on how to use Macromedia Studio MX 2004. So, I just bought it then and there. I hope this time I'll seriously continue with these web development plans of mine... So hopefully you people will come and visit the new website when it's done okay? I'll notify in my blog and in my MSN Messenger display name when it's finished... Well Mr. Reviewer, what will you review next? I plan to watch Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban next, which is tentatively to be launched on 3rd June 2004. I hope the movie will be good, coz I plan to watch it as early as possible. Even on the day of launch itself, if the seats are not fully booked that is. I might even go for the midnight show! Well, see ya there people, if you're watching it with me that is...
