Ruing what might have been...
Sunday, June 13, 2004 I KNEW this would happen. I lost to a player that's not as good in playing PES3 as me! Argh... I just can't believe that I lost to that guy, a pakcik named Gary. I won't make such a fuss of my loss if it was somebody who's very skilful (like the guy named Effy who made it through to the day's semifinal match), but a player yang I KNOW I could have beaten easily? Tension... Tapi lek aaa, takde la gile2 tension. Sket2 je. :) The day went like this: I arrived at Sunway around 9.35 a.m., thinking I was late. But I guessed wrong! Actually, they started the matches at 3 p.m., with registration closing at 1 p.m. If I knew it was like that, I might as well came later. Nevertheless, everything at first went smoothly. When I played my warm-up match with bystanders and that Effy guy, I won two matches with those bystanders and lost one with Effy. But that loss was just a 1-0 loss, with the goal coming from a penalty kick. So, everything seemed rosy then. Next, when the match schedule was finalised, I found out that I had a first round bye, meaning I don't have to play the first round of matches, coz not enough players registered for the tournament. So, I was lucky to be drawn into a first round matchup that has no opponent. Thus, I went on to the 2nd round, which started at 4.30 p.m. When it was really my time to play, I saw that I was drawn into a matchup with that Gary guy (not a foreigner OK, he's just a Malaysian Chinese). I chose France, while he chose Brazil. The match started fine enough, with me leading the match 1-0. Suddenly, he came back and equalised. Then, I scored another goal. 2-1. But what came after that was a total disappointment. I gave away a penalty (out of a red card incident), and he capitalised by scoring, 2-2. Then, although I was a man down, I know I could go on and win, but I gave away a soft goal and he scored the winning goal, 3-2. Argghhh! I thought that was the winning goal, but actually, matchups were being played with 2 games per match, using the same teams. The winner is the one that has an agregate lead. If the scores are tied after two matches, extra time of 5 minutes will be played using the golden goal rule, and if it's still tied, a penalty shootout will ensue. I had another chance! I played the next match thinking I still have a chance of winning. Again, everything started sweetly. I scored, making the score 1-0, and an agregate of 3-3. But I heaped mistakes upon mistakes on myself, and that proved to be costly. He scored the remaining 2 goals of the match, making the final score 2-1. I was shellshocked. I can't believe I lost to somebody less skilful than me. For those of you who think I'm bragging by saying, "If he's not skilful, then why did you lose?". Firstly, my friends, I know skilful people and they are people like Batuk, Chaon and Effy (although Batuk and Chaon are much, much more skilful than Effy. Kelabi, lek aaa... ko pun terer, tapi tak seterer aku. ;)). Secondly, I self-destructed. I gave away soft goals. There's no two ways about it: they really are soft goals. One of them was from a penalty, which I shouldn't have conceded. Another was from a counterattack out of a pass that was directed wrongly. Yeesshh! Thirdly, I did not take advantage of the defensive frailties that the guy had due to his choice of Brazil as his team. I wasted countless opportunities to score goals. Also, there was the fact that he was using Brazil, which has many individuals who are very terer. But this reason cannot be accepted la, coz I was also using France... As it turns out, Effy didn't win the semifinal match. He lost to another Malay guy whom I forgot his name. But that Malay guy also lost in the final match to a Chinese guy, again somebody that I didn't know his name. But Batuk, Chaon (bukan Kelabi ye... ;)), rugi la korang tak balik mesia. If only korang dah balik skrg, mmg korang senang la nak menang tournament ni. I really tell you la, the champion of today's games (who'll fight with the champion of tomorrow's games) are no match for you guys la. Kalo korang main, aku rasa, Batuk kot gi France. Chaon takleh lawan Batuk agaknye... hehehe. Ruginye... if I didn't lose, I could've gone to the semifinal match of the day at least. But well, it's all in the past. Now I should concentrate on improving my game and preparing for the less rewarding but still fun tournament of WE7, that'll be held next weekend. It's just for a cash prize, but still OK la tu...
