Risks - Makes Lives Better!

Wednesday, September 22, 2004

Hmmm... this morning, when I woke up from my slumber, something significant but normally forgotten by most people came to my mind - the value of taking risks. I just had a think through an found out as of now, how boring and cliched my life is.

I mean, I've been living a simple, normal, boring, same old life ever since I was a small child. I went to school everyday, studied and studied till I got good results, continue studying in Uniten and again trying my best to get good results, so that I can continue to get a good job and earn money to support my family later on. And then I'll try to get rich, and buy everything I want, and finally die a happy, content but boring old man. That was my previous plan in life.

But now I feel that how low-risk my life is. I can't seem to name many occasions where I really throw caution to the wind and take a risk by doing something out of the ordinary.

Back in school, I never risked embarassment by trying to win a girl that I like's heart. Instead, I laid back and said eventually, I will find somebody. I never "fly"ed (i.e. go out without permission) during my secondary school years. Yes, it was illegal to do that, but nevertheless, it will bring a smile to my face if I were to do that then, and reminisced about it now. Instead, I played safe, and stuck to school rules. I never took part in any co-curricular activities in Uniten, because I find that it will just waste my time and disallow me to fully concentrate on my studies. The list just goes on and on and on...

I want my life to be interesting, enjoyable, and great to be remembered of when I'm old. To do that, I must be brave to take risks. Life is too short to not take risks. Risks can make a huge difference. They help you to differentiate your life from that of countless, other ordinary people.

Friends, I also would like to take this moment to persuade you, lets all make our lives have more meaning by taking risks. Been waiting forever to approach that girl/guy you've liked for like, forever, but you don't approach her/him because you don't have the guts to do so? Been wanting to take part in a competition, but you don't do it because you feel you're not confident enough to win it? Or something as simple as wanting to change your image (hairstyle, personality, clothing, etc.), but feel afraid to do so because you're not sure what others' reactions will be to your decision?

To all those questions, I say, just do it! Don't think too much. Just do what you want to do, and forget thinking of the consequences. Deal with the results of your decisions as they come. Lead a happy-go-lucky life, and I'll guarantee that, in the end, even if you don't accomplish many major things in life, you'll still feel happy with what you've done.

Life's too short to not take risks. Just go for it!
