Breasfeeding does not degrade your dignity!!!

I came across this article from faza's and mack's blogs. For your easy reference, I'll just post the excerpts of the article here. Credit goes out to them though, for putting it up in the first place.

In Mingguan Malaysia(12/12/2004)..Panca Indera Pg 9 (writer unknown):

"ISTERI ARTIS TAK JAGA IMEJ"

".. isteri artis popular cantik dan bergetah di sebuah kompleks membeli belah. .. hampir tersembul biji mata kami kerana terkejut bila dgn selambanya menyingkap anak bajunya dan menyusukan anaknya di khalayak ramai ....bukan susu botol tau tapi susu badan .. tanpa sedikitpun rasa malu "
.

The first response that came to my mind after reading that article is: What the hell??? To me, that guy is the one who's wrong, thinking that breastfeeding in public is a degrading act. If this writer thinks like this, then I'm sure he/she would also think that it's okay for women to wear very tight-fitting and cleavage-baring clothes, and strut around macam tak buat salah je. At least that's the general opinion I get when I watch some of our artistes' performances in TV. And these artistes are Muslims, by the way! To me, that's more degrading to your husband compared to breastfeeding in public.

When I see a mother breastfeeding her baby, my mind smiles on her, and then I'll just look away. I don't get turned on or something. NOPE. Instead, I'll feel good, knowing that the mother loves her child so much that she's willing to perform breastfeeding. Even in this age of formula milk, which, in my opinion, is still not the best form of food for newborn children. Why I said she loves her child a lot? Coz the benefits of breastfeeding, especially in terms of health, are tremendous. Just read faza's blog and you'll get a few of them. This is in addition to the social benefits, in terms of better mother-child relationship, that one can get from breastfeeding.

Plus, if u recall, the urine from a baby who's less than 2 years old and is fed only with his/her mother's breast milk, is considered just the lowest ranked najis (mukhaffafah), which is easier to clean up. This does not apply if the baby is fed with anything else (which will make his/her urine go to the middle-ranked najis mutawassitah). Thus, it just proves that breast milk is a very clean source of food.

I myself, when I get married and have my own children, will want my wife to breastfeed them, whenever possible of course (there are times that make breastfeeding not possible, such as if she's ill). Even if it means breastfeeding in public. Well, the best thing would be to go to a baby's room or something that's quickly becoming a norm in new shopping complexes, what with all the perverts going around in our society today. But in places where those rooms are not available, it's better to breastfeed in public rather than risk your safety performing it in back-alleys or dark corners of the complex.

Please, ppl of Malaysia, breastfeeding does not degrade your dignity! Somebody should purge this kind of negative thinking from our ppl...
