And The Academy Award Goes to...

Monday, February 28, 2005

I should be starting my crash course (learn 4 chapters of Control Systems in less than 24 hours!) on Control Systems now (since I have a test tomorrow night), but I suddenly feel the urge to blog, so here I am.

Well, I don't have anything particular to write about today. I guess I'll just write about what happened these past few days, and my comments on them.

The Oscars was broadcasted live on 8TV this morning, and I watched it. It was great, but somehow I think the host, Chris Rock, was not as classy as previous hosts. I particularly like it when Billy Crystal hosts, because his jokes are not as crude and "like a standup comedian" as Chris Rock's. His are very subtle and classy and ironic, and they hit us at the right places. Never fails to make me chuckle, that guy.

Anyway, I haven't seen all of the most nominated movies that were featured this time at the Oscars, such as The Aviator, Ray and Million Dollar Baby, so I can't vouch for their quality, whether they deserved the awards they won or not. But one movie I'm really surprised to not even be nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor or Supporting Actor was Collateral. I liked that movie so much! Well, it may not be worth an Oscar for Best Picture, since the movie's excitement goes down towards the ending as it slowly changed into an action film, but I like the performances of Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise in that movie! If you read my previous blog entry about that movie, you would've known that I found Tom Cruise to be a very classy yet ruthless assassin, and Jamie Foxx was great in acting as somebody who's torn apart in whether to help an assassin or save himself. I guess Jamie Foxx couldn't've won the Best Supporting Actor role since he already won an Oscar for Best Actor as Ray Charles in Ray. If he didn't win an Oscar for Ray, I think he would've won the Supporting Actor Oscar.

Anyway, movies, just like songs, are a matter of personal preference. Just like songs, where some people like certain genres, or some people like a song when they feel the song is good (like me!); movies work the same way too. Some people prefer action movies, some prefer thriller, and of course, some, like me, don't care what genre the movie belongs to, as long as it's good. However, I find that the Oscars normally lean towards movies that are more dramatic, have more finesse, and show more talents from the actors and actresses themselves, rather than prefering an action-packed blockbuster that raked in millions and millions of dollars for its awards. I'm not saying that the Oscar-winning movies are not good (The Lord of The Rings trilogy was one of the best movie trilogies I've ever seen!), it's just that maybe it might not suit all of our tastes.

However, I think I'll try to watch those Oscar-nominated movies to see how good they are.

For all of you keeping track (which I'm sure you don't), I got two more offers for my industrial training. So currently I have three offers to choose from. One's from Kah Bintang Auto which all of you should've known by now that, given that I have two other offers, I don't think I will accept (I tak nak jadi kuli mekanik!).

The second offer is from Pusat Sains Negara. Well, they haven't actually sent the official offer letter to my house, but nevertheless, I've called them up and they've confirmed that my application was received and I made the cut. This offer I'll almost surely take, considering that they pay me an allowance; the place is quite near to my home; and the fact that my friend also got an offer for training there. I don't exactly know what they want us as trainees to do there, but my friend once called and they said probably we might be sent to learn about air-conditioning at their air-conditioning plant or something. Whatever it is, I hope we won't be asked to exhibit some scientific stuff! I'm not that good in my physics theories. Hehehe...

The third offer, which is quite an intriguing one, comes from Technip Geoproduction (M) Sdn. Bhd. Anybody heard of this company? I haven't, but they have their website at www.technip.com, and it seems that they are involved in some offshore oil and gas drilling thingy. Well, that certainly sounds interesting, and it involves a field that I have a preference towards. Actually, my application haven't yet been confirmed, but they have shortlisted me as a possible candidate, and I only have to make a phone call to them to confirm my participation in their Industrial Training Programme. But the thing is, they start their programme in March, but in March, my semester will still not be completed. I just hope they can extend that deadline to April, or at least allow me to join up with the programme at a later date.

Well, that's all then. Heh... I know, it's basically a boring story of my life again, but well, I feel like telling it, so tell it I will.

Thanks for reading! Doa for my success in my test tomorrow night!
