PC Fair weekend

Tuesday, August 09, 2005

This past weekend, I went twice to KLCC. Once was on Friday, when I went there with my gf. We just wanted to hang out there, since next week and the week after she'll be so busy and will not have time to spare. I won't want to disturb her then.

But I was a bit late while on the way to KLCC. You see, I planned to perform my solat Jumaat there, but I started walking from home at about 1.15 p.m. An LRT ride straight to KLCC takes around 27 minutes. So, I arrived at around 1.45 p.m. And it was raining a bit! Huhu... When I arrived, the solat was just starting. So I joined and solat in the rain. Well, it wasn't raining heavily, so I didn't feel bad about it at all. But that must be my first experience performing the solat in the rain. :)

For lunch, we ate at Madam Kwan's. I tried the Char Kuey Teow, but IMO, it's not as great as I expect it to be. I prefer Little Penang's Char Kuey Teow.

Initially we planned to go visit the PC Fair that was being held at the adjoining KL Convention Centre. But I'm glad we didn't go: there were loads and loads of people visiting the fair!

This was further punctuated the next day, when I accompanied my friend who wanted to visit the fair to buy some DVD's and have a look-around at the prices for the items on sale. IMO, the place is quite huge and there are more ample walking space compared to PWTC, but the way they manage the movement of people at the fair is just dead wrong!

Take the entrance and exit, for instance. The entrance and exit is only via 1 doorway, and it was jam packed! Loads of crowds wanted to go in, while simultaneously a lot of people wanted to go out. So, they both collide and created an unnecessary bottleneck. It's not that there are no other doorways: they exist, but are all LOCKED! Bengong punye management.

Anyway, as a result of browsing through the hallways, I came across an Altec Lansing headset, which was priced at RM75. It was quite a steal, considering that the headset is quite high-end (further proven when I went to Low Yat yesterday: I found the same headset priced at RM185!). I managed to buy it at RM70. It was actually an impulsive decision; I already have a headset at home, but that headset is already waaaay past it's due. It's usable, but it's volume control has gone a bit haywire.

Other than that, I purchased a much-needed DVD+RW at RM7.90. I really needed that so that I can backup my data, especially those that are sooo important, such as my personal and professional files, such as my university-related stuff, resume, pictures, etc. Those, if lost, are really irreplacable. And also, I bought a printer cartridge for my gf.

What is your opinion on the PC Fair? Do you think the items on sale there are a bargain? I personally think that only some of them are worthwhile, such as the peripherals, monitors, casing, etc. But I don't think the internal CPU components are cheap, such as the RAM, hard disk, optical drives, processor, etc. I think they're quite the same as if you were buying it at Low Yat. If you know where the low-priced shops in Low Yat are, you won't need to go to the PC Fair to purchase those items.

Panjang la pulak. Lain kali sambung la. :)
