Hello World!

Hi guys! I'm back! Finally, I have completed probably 80% of my project, with only a few minor updates to go, before really going gold with it. That is reason enough to usher myself back into the world of blogging. Oh how I miss this blog of mine (and those of yours!):)

So what have I been doing lately? Truth be told, it was project, project, and project only. Well, occasionally once in a while, I watch my favourite US TV shows in order to alleviate the boredom of staring at the computer for hours on end.

With the nearing completion of my final year project, the reality of working life starts to kick in. Yup, it is time for me to search for a job. I actually have three choices regarding this matter.
  1. I can just sit back, relax and wait for TNB to call me for an interview, ace it (which I don't think is too hard to do based on my exam results - I heard, with good exam results, TNB loan or scholarship students can easily pass the interview - it seems more like a formality), and then join TNB's workforce.
  2. To make it a point to not work with a GLC (Government-Linked Company, e.g. TNB) and find a job elsewhere.
  3. An amalgamation of both 1 and 2: find a job first, then see what I am offered with. If good, take up the job offer; if not, work with TNB.
I am currently undergoing choice 3, which I think is the most practical choice. TNB's next intake into their workforce will only commence in March, so I have plenty of time to search and possibly start a job elsewhere. After all, I find living under my parents' roof without working for a few months (and not even studying!) a bit uneasy. I at least want to pay a part of our house's electricity bill. I am, after all, using a lot of it, leaving my PC on for at least 18 hours a day!

Anyway, in choosing option 3, I have applied for a few jobs advertised in Jobstreet.com. Based on my application status written there, I should be called for a few interviews. One such interview happened this past Friday, in which I did not perform very well. I was tired actually that day, and was not that into interview. I was concentrating on my project the previous day.

The interview was by a recruitment agency, which represented on behalf of one of their client companies. I don't think I should be naming them here, so suffice to say that it is related to mechanical engineering. So the interview goes that I was asked the normal questions:
  1. Explain about yourself.
  2. What is your goal in life?
  3. What are your career plans?
  4. What are your weaknesses?
  5. Explain about your previous job/work.
  6. Talk a bit about your extra-curricular activities.
  7. Where do you see yourself in 10 years' time?
  8. Any interests?
  9. What are your reasons for choosing mechanical engineering as your career?
Now I have a set of questions that I can prepare to answer during future interviews for more interesting jobs. My hope upon hope is that I will be called for an interview at Technip, where I completed my internship. Now, there's a company that pays well (starting salary RM2300 that has a possiblity to be increased to RM3000 by the end of the 1st year of employement, with overtime opportunities even for executives!), is situated close to my home, gives a design job in the oil and gas sector that suits my preferences well, and has people that I already know, thus avoiding the feeling of helplessness when one starts work at a new company. To sum it all, it's just grrrrrreat!

I already have an application that is rejected, which is an application to Shell. But I don't care much about it because I really didn't put high expectations for it.

OK, time to continue on my quest for the completion of my project! Later dudes...
