Hard disk reformatted, Windows reinstalled, but taking too long...
Wednesday, November 23, 2005 Reinstalling Windows XP is a hassle. Granted, it's much simpler compared to reinstalling Windows 98 (I've done both, I know). But still... Yesterday, when restarting my computer after a program asks me to do so to complete its installation, I ran into a problem: the computer refused to load into Windows. At the Windows loading screen, it hanged. Then I'd have to restart the computer. After doing so, the same problem repeated itself. Numerous times. Actually I've encountered this problem many times before. But in all those times, a simple press of the reset button would solve everything. But not this time. Now, for reasons unknown, the computer is acting very stubborn towards me. So, I did the only thing I think I should do: I tried to repair the installation. Unfortunately, it didn't work. So, I went and reformatted my hard drive. Good thing I repartitioned the disk, so I need only reformat the D: partition, ensuring all my other important documents remain safe. But the hassle is when trying to make the computer look and feel like how it was before. I liked the way my computer is before the hard drive reformat. It wasn't spiffy and speedy, of course, but I like the fact that I have all my bookmarks ready, I have almost all the programs I need, etc. Trying to recreate the new Windows installation to make it feel as the old one is very hard indeed. It's already been a day since the reinstallation, but I'm only partly halfway through. I think every once in a while (maybe once a year) everyone should backup their hard disks and reformat the Windows hard disk. It really does make a difference. Windows does run faster compared to how it was before the reformat. There you go, a little bit of computing stuff. Ok, time to drink Nescafe! Later... Posted by Nikman Shah at 1:05 am ![]() | *** |
