2nd stage completed

Friday, December 09, 2005

I finished my second interview! Now I need to wait 2 weeks to know the outcome of the interview, whether I passed or not. They have 2 vacancies for us 3 candidates, so there is still a possibility of someone being booted out. Terasa cam Survivor pulak... :P

But I heard they don't all the time take everyone from an interviewing session, coz they said they held previous sessions where they didn't employ anyone from the sessions, due to the fact that they find them unsuitable for the position. But according to them, this is the 1st time they conducted a 2nd interviewing stage, since previous times, they only selected people from the 1st interviewing stage. Thus, there is a high chance lah that we will make the cut. Only upper management knows the exact reason why they made this 2nd stage.

The interview itself was similar to the 1st stage. Alhamdulillah. I was able to answer the questions posed to me very fluently. But I noticed that I tend to ramble on and on, sometimes. I need to put a stop to that habit. :) And yes, there was a Japanese in the interviewers' panel. He's a department Director. Alhamdulillah he asked only 2 questions and not more. When he asked, I had to pay 100% concentration to what he was saying so that I can understand his words and not say something totally different to what he meant. Hehe.

Anyway, will I be taking up the job if I were offered to work there? That I am not yet sure.

During the rounds that one of the engineers there brought us before the interview, I found that the R&D work they did there was more towards designing something to satisfy a client's requirements. They already have a product list that clients' can choose from, but the only difference is that sometimes these clients have specific requirements that they want us to satisfy, due to their weather conditions, cost considerations, etc. So, it will be up to the R&D Engineer to find out how to perform slight modifications to the current product specs in order to satisfy their requirements. And this is where the R&D part begins: perform some research, testing in labs, creating a prototype, testing again, manufacturing, etc.

But basically, according to the engineer, the work is mostly slight modifications to current product specs, rather than major modifications or completely new designs. He said, these major design works are normally performed by the HQ overseas.

Thus, I will need to ask around, learn more about the job, how enjoyable or boring it is, whether it is very rewarding financially and mentally, the commitments that I have to undertake, etc. Basically I need to learn everything I can about it. I have a schoolmate who works in the same kind of R&D position but in the PJ branch. I'll try to contact him to learn more about the job, but only when I have been offered lah. Hopefully with the knowledge I have, I can then decide whether to take up the offer or not.
