Off to the 2nd stage!
Wednesday, December 07, 2005 Finally, I have officially finished my Final Year Project! I submitted my hard cover thesis to my supervisor today. Technically, I am not yet a graduate since I haven't received my results transcript yet, but I can safely say that I am a graduate lah none-the-less. Can't wait to get my transcript. "Off to the 2nd stage", states my title. What 2nd stage? My Panasonic Compressor R&D interview, of course. Alhamdulillah, as expected, I passed the 1st interview. Now, in this next interview, the Managing Director (MD) himself will be conducting the interview. I wonder what sort of questions will he be asking... I expect more personality, management, and company profile based questions rather than technical questions, because it is a well known fact that as technical people, especially engineers, rise up the hierarchy of work, they would slowly leave behind their technical expertise and concentrate more on managerial activities. So then, I think tonight I'll be studying a lot about Panasonic's profile. Not just about Panasonic Compressor R & D Malaysia, but also about all of the other branches of Panasonic. Don't want to get caught off-guard. But apart from that, I don't know what else I should prepare. Maybe frame answers to most-asked-questions, I guess, such as the ever popular "Explain about yourself" question. Also, maybe show him how rajin I am, since he's a Japanese, and as we commonly know, Japanese are very hardworking people. So, he surely would prefer hardworking and dedicated employees. Nevertheless, what's most important is that tomorrow, before the interview, when the staff there brings us candidates around the factory premises, I must gain as much information as possible about my responsibilities, job description and requirements, what I am required to do there, what type of work they do there, etc. I hope tomorrow I can decide, then and there, whether the Mechanical R&D Engineer job is suitable for me or not. Currently, I prefer design/consultancy job such as those performed at Technip, but who knows, maybe tomorrow's trip will make me change my mind. Another important thing to know too is in terms of remuneration, benefits, and non-technical life (read: social) there. These things I will try to gain more knowledge of only after I have gained a confirmed offer from Panasonic. I'll try to ask around if any of my friends (or friends' friend) are working there (last I heard, my schoolmate is currently working in the PJ branch). I'll then try to learn as much as I can from them about life in Panasonic. Sometimes, you might like the job they give you, but there might be other aspects about working life at a particular company that you can only know by asking the people who are working there. They might shed some light on whether it's enjoyable or not. Anyway, that's for later. Now, I should prepare. And not forgetting, tomorrow, must drink coffee! ;) Doakan aku!
